Mr. Riley is not only one of pro basketball's winningest coaches, but his speeches before hundreds of corporations have earned him the title of "America's Greatest Motivational Speaker." He has been rated by Success Magazine as "The best in his field." Pat is a consummate competitor who knows the exhilaration that comes with winning. His philosophy is based upon winning, leadership, mastery, change, and personal growth as well as understanding and controlling the shifting dynamics of a team -- any team, whether it is a small company, a giant corporation, a city, or a group of athletes. Pat has also completed an award winning 30-minute motivational video entitled "Teamwork" in which he applies his winning philosophies to business and life in general. His books Show Time and The Winner Within have appeared on the New York Times Best Seller list.
Coach Riley started the 2000-01 season winning the 1,000th game of his NBA coaching career, becoming the fastest coach in the history of the four major North American professional sports to reach this milestone. He also led the HEAT to the playoffs for the sixth straight year, which was also his 19th consecutive playoff appearance, tying him with Red Auerbach for the most consecutive postseason trips in NBA history. Despite losing the reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Alonzo Mourning, for 69 games, Riley still directed the HEAT to 50 wins, marking the 17th time he has led his team to a 50-win season of his career, the most in NBA history.
Along with his wife, Chris, Pat has been involved with numerous charity and community service projects throughout his coaching career. They founded The Miami HEAT Family Outreach in 1997 which has raised over $2.7 million for the South Florida community and whose main beneficiaries include Jackson Memorial Foundation's Guardian Angels which supports the Holtz Center for seriously ill children, and SafeSpace which is a domestic violence shelter for women and their children. They are also involved in the Pediatric AIDS Foundation's Kids for Kids organization which they helped start in 1992 in New York. For over 30 years the Riley's have been actively involved with Boys and Girls Clubs of America, as well as the YMCA in Los Angeles, New York, and Miami. Pat has also received many prestigious awards including the Miami Project Sports Legend Award in 1992, Boys and Girls Clubs Miami Person of the Year Award in 1998, and was honored by the YMCA Miami in 1998.
Riley presently live in Miami, Florida, with his wife and children.
