William Warren Bradley, born on July 28, 1943, is a distinguished figure in both American politics and professional basketball. A former United States senator from New Jersey, Bradley served from 1979 to 1997 as a member of the Democratic Party. Before his political career, Bradley was a standout basketball player, excelling at Princeton University and later representing the United States in the 1964 Olympics, where he won a gold medal. His academic and athletic prowess earned him a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford, where he delayed his entry into the NBA. Bradley's unique combination of intellectual and athletic achievements set him apart as a multifaceted leader.

Bradley’s professional basketball career began in 1967 when he joined the New York Knicks after completing his studies at Oxford and serving in the Air Force Reserve. He played for the Knicks for ten seasons, contributing to their NBA championships in 1970 and 1973. Known for his intelligence on the court and his ability to perform under pressure, Bradley was a key player in the Knicks' success during the early 1970s. His decision to retire in 1977 marked the end of a remarkable basketball career, but it also signaled the beginning of his journey into public service.

In 1978, Bradley transitioned into politics, running for and winning a seat in the U.S. Senate from New Jersey. He was re-elected twice, in 1984 and 1990, and became known for his work on tax reform, economic policy, and social justice issues. Bradley’s political career culminated in his bid for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination in 2000, where he ran a campaign focused on healthcare reform and reducing income inequality. Although he lost the nomination to Vice President Al Gore, Bradley remained an influential voice in American politics and public policy.

Beyond his careers in sports and politics, Bradley is also a prolific author, having written seven non-fiction books, including "We Can All Do Better." He continues to engage with the public through his weekly radio show, "American Voices," on Sirius Satellite Radio. Bradley is also involved in corporate governance, serving as a director for Starbucks and as a partner at Allen & Company. His contributions to both sports and public service have earned him numerous accolades, including induction into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2008.
