Briana Scurry is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished goalkeepers in the history of women's soccer. As the starting goalkeeper for the United States women's national soccer team, she played a pivotal role in some of the most significant moments in the sport's history. Scurry was instrumental in the team's success at the 1996 Summer Olympics, where they won the gold medal, and again in the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup, where the U.S. team emerged as champions. In 2017, Scurry was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame, becoming the first woman goalkeeper and the first Black woman to receive this prestigious honor. Her induction was a testament to her impact on the sport, both as a player and as a trailblazer for future generations of athletes. Scurry's influence extends beyond the soccer field, as she has been an advocate for diversity and inclusion in sports, as well as a role model for LGBTQ+ athletes. In 2018, she married Chryssa Zizos, further solidifying her role as a prominent figure in the LGBTQ+ community.

In 2022, Scurry released her memoir, "My Greatest Save," which became a best-seller and offered a candid look at her life, career, and the challenges she faced both on and off the field. That same year, she was the subject of a CBS documentary titled "The Only," which chronicled her journey as a pioneering athlete. Scurry's legacy as one of the greatest goalkeepers in women's soccer history is firmly established, and her contributions to the sport continue to inspire athletes around the world.
