Following his retirement from professional football, Cunningham transitioned into a new role as an ordained Protestant minister. He became the team chaplain for the Las Vegas Raiders from 2020 to 2022, continuing his involvement in the sport in a spiritual capacity. In recognition of his outstanding college career, Cunningham was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2016.
