Cameron Jerrell Newton, born on May 11, 1989, is a former professional football quarterback who made a significant impact during his 11 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). Known for his dual-threat capabilities, Newton is the NFL leader in career quarterback rushing touchdowns and ranks third in career quarterback rushing yards. His college career was equally impressive, as he played for the Auburn Tigers, where he won the prestigious Heisman Trophy and led his team to victory in the 2011 BCS National Championship Game. Newton's unique combination of size, speed, and athleticism made him a standout player at both the collegiate and professional levels.

Newton was selected first overall by the Carolina Panthers in the 2011 NFL Draft, and he wasted no time making his mark. In his rookie season, he set records for passing and rushing yards by a quarterback, earning him the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. He became the first rookie quarterback to throw for 4,000 yards in a season and the first to throw for 400 yards in his NFL debut. Newton also set the single-season record for quarterback rushing touchdowns, showcasing his ability to dominate both through the air and on the ground. His early success laid the foundation for a remarkable career with the Panthers.

Between 2013 and 2017, Newton led the Panthers to four playoff appearances and three division titles, solidifying his status as one of the league's top quarterbacks. His most successful season came in 2015 when he was named the NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP) after leading the Panthers to a franchise-best 15–1 record and an appearance in Super Bowl 50. Newton became the first African-American quarterback to outright win the NFL MVP award, further cementing his legacy as a trailblazer in the sport. Despite falling short in the Super Bowl, his 2015 campaign remains one of the most dominant seasons by a quarterback in NFL history.

After his MVP season, Newton's career was hampered by injuries, and the Panthers struggled to replicate their previous success. He was released by the Panthers ahead of his 10th season and signed with the New England Patriots in 2020. Although he showed flashes of his former self, Newton was released by the Patriots the following year. He returned to the Panthers midway through the 2021 season but was not re-signed afterward, marking the end of his time in the NFL. Despite the challenges in the latter part of his career, Newton's impact on the game remains undeniable, and he is widely regarded as one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in NFL history.
