Matthew Rutledge Schaub, born on June 25, 1981, is a former American football quarterback who enjoyed a 17-season career in the National Football League (NFL). Schaub played college football at the University of Virginia, where he showcased his talent as a standout quarterback for the Cavaliers. His strong performances in college led to his selection by the Atlanta Falcons in the third round of the 2004 NFL Draft, where he was picked 90th overall. Schaub spent his first three seasons in the NFL as a backup to Michael Vick, gaining valuable experience and honing his skills as a professional quarterback.

In 2007, Schaub was traded to the Houston Texans, where he would make his mark as a starting quarterback. During his seven seasons with the Texans, Schaub became a key figure in the franchise's history, leading the team to multiple winning seasons and earning two Pro Bowl selections in 2009 and 2012. His ability to read defenses, combined with his strong arm and leadership on the field, helped the Texans achieve their first-ever playoff appearance in 2011. Schaub's tenure in Houston solidified his reputation as a reliable and productive quarterback in the NFL.

After his time with the Texans, Schaub had brief stints with the Oakland Raiders in 2014 and the Baltimore Ravens in 2015, where he served as a backup quarterback. Although his role was more limited during these years, Schaub continued to provide veteran leadership and experience to the teams he played for. In 2016, Schaub returned to the Atlanta Falcons, the team that originally drafted him, where he spent the final five seasons of his career as a backup quarterback. His return to Atlanta allowed him to mentor younger players and contribute to the team's success in a supporting role.

Schaub officially retired from the NFL after the 2020 season, concluding a long and successful career that spanned nearly two decades. Known for his professionalism, work ethic, and ability to perform under pressure, Schaub left a lasting impact on the teams he played for and the league as a whole. His career totals include over 25,000 passing yards and 136 touchdown passes, making him one of the more accomplished quarterbacks of his era.
