Trent Dilfer is a former NFL quarterback and current head coach of the UAB Blazers football team. Born on March 13, 1972, Dilfer had a 14-season career in the NFL, where he played for several teams, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Baltimore Ravens, Seattle Seahawks, Cleveland Browns, and San Francisco 49ers. His most notable achievement came in 2000 when he led the Ravens to their first Super Bowl victory in Super Bowl XXXV. Despite this success, Dilfer became the first quarterback in NFL history to be released after winning a Super Bowl, as the Ravens chose not to re-sign him for the following season.

Dilfer's professional football journey began at Fresno State, where he played college football and won the prestigious Sammy Baugh Trophy as a junior. His performance in college led to him being selected sixth overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 1994 NFL Draft. While he showed promise early in his career, including earning a Pro Bowl selection in 1997, his time with the Buccaneers was marked by inconsistency, and he was eventually released after six seasons. His move to the Ravens in 2000, initially as a backup, proved to be a turning point, as he took over as the starting quarterback midway through the season and led the team to a Super Bowl title.

After his time with the Ravens, Dilfer spent the remainder of his NFL career primarily as a backup quarterback. He played for the Seattle Seahawks from 2001 to 2004, followed by short stints with the Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers before retiring in 2008. Despite not being a long-term starter after his Super Bowl win, Dilfer's leadership and experience were highly valued by the teams he played for. His post-playing career has been equally notable, as he transitioned into a successful role as an NFL analyst for ESPN, a position he held for nearly a decade. He also became the head coach of the Elite 11 quarterback camp, where he has mentored some of the top young quarterbacks in the country.

In 2023, Dilfer took on a new challenge by becoming the head coach of the UAB Blazers football team. His extensive experience as both a player and an analyst has provided him with a deep understanding of the game, which he now brings to his coaching role. Dilfer's journey from NFL quarterback to coach and analyst showcases his enduring passion for football and his commitment to developing the next generation of players. His leadership and knowledge of the game continue to make him a respected figure in the football community.
