Brandon Roy, born on July 23, 1984, in Seattle, Washington, is a former professional basketball player and current coach. Known for his exceptional skills on the court, Roy played six seasons in the NBA, primarily with the Portland Trail Blazers, and briefly with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He was selected sixth overall in the 2006 NBA Draft after a standout college career with the Washington Huskies. Roy quickly made a name for himself in the league, earning the nickname "B-Roy" and being referred to as "the Natural" by Trail Blazers announcer Brian Wheeler. His ability to score, pass, and defend made him one of the most versatile guards of his era.

Roy's impact on the Portland Trail Blazers was immediate. In his rookie season (2006-07), he averaged 16.8 points per game and was named the NBA Rookie of the Year in a near-unanimous vote. His leadership on the court became evident when the team traded Zach Randolph, clearing the way for Roy to take on a more prominent role. Over the next few seasons, Roy became the face of the franchise, leading the Trail Blazers to multiple playoff appearances. He was named to the NBA All-Star team three times (2008, 2009, and 2010) and earned two All-NBA Team selections, solidifying his status as one of the league's elite players.

Unfortunately, Roy's promising career was cut short due to a degenerative knee condition. After undergoing multiple surgeries, he announced his retirement from basketball on December 10, 2011. However, his love for the game brought him back briefly in 2012, when he signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Roy played only five games before his knee issues forced him to step away from the game for good. Despite his shortened career, Roy's impact on the NBA and the Trail Blazers remains significant, and he is remembered as one of the most talented players of his generation.

Following his playing career, Roy transitioned into coaching, taking over as the head coach of the boys' basketball team at Garfield High School in Seattle. Under his leadership, the team has enjoyed considerable success, including winning state championships. Roy's ability to mentor young players and share his knowledge of the game has made him a respected figure in the coaching community. His journey from NBA star to high school coach is a testament to his passion for basketball and his desire to give back to the sport that defined his career.
