Cedric Maxwell, affectionately known as "Cornbread," is a former professional basketball player who made a significant impact during his 11 seasons in the NBA. Born on November 21, 1955, Maxwell rose to prominence during his college years at UNC Charlotte, where he led the 49ers to an NCAA Final Four appearance in 1977. His impressive college performance caught the attention of the Boston Celtics, who drafted him in 1977. Maxwell's versatility and skill as a forward quickly became evident, and he played a pivotal role in the Celtics' success during the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Maxwell's career with the Boston Celtics was highlighted by his contributions to two NBA championships. In the 1980–1981 season, he was instrumental in the Celtics' title run, earning the NBA Finals MVP award for his outstanding performance. His ability to score in the post, combined with his defensive prowess, made him a key player alongside Celtics legends like Larry Bird, Robert Parish, and Kevin McHale. Maxwell's unselfish play and leadership helped solidify the Celtics as one of the dominant teams of the 1980s.

After several successful seasons with the Celtics, Maxwell was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers before the 1985–1986 season. He spent a season and a half with the Clippers before being traded to the Houston Rockets midway through the 1986–1987 season. Maxwell finished his NBA career with the Rockets, retiring after the 1987–1988 season with over 10,000 points scored. His contributions to the game were recognized when the Boston Celtics retired his jersey number 31 in 2003, a testament to his lasting legacy with the franchise.

Following his retirement from playing, Maxwell transitioned into broadcasting, where he has served as the color commentator for Celtics radio broadcasts since 2001. His deep knowledge of the game and engaging personality have made him a beloved figure in the Celtics community. Maxwell also briefly coached in the United States Basketball League, further showcasing his passion for the sport. Today, he remains an influential voice in basketball, both as a broadcaster and as a former player whose contributions to the game are still celebrated.
