Walker's basketball journey began at the University of Connecticut, where he played college basketball for the Huskies. During the 2010–11 season, he emerged as one of the nation's top players, finishing as the second-leading scorer and earning consensus first-team All-American honors. Walker was selected ninth overall by the Charlotte Bobcats in the 2011 NBA Draft, marking the beginning of a successful professional career.
